Making Men examines the question of masculinity. This dance film zooms in on 4 individuals in the process of becoming men. As is expected, they proceed unquestioningly into manhood through various stages of their lives, adopting the clearly coded characteristics allowed by society.
However, a feeling of unease, in the very depths of their being, oppresses them. They feel uncertainty but also something else, harder to define…
Shot in the breathtaking landscape of Zimbabwe, the film features strong and rhythmical choreography but also a special camera work that intensifies emotions inspired by the movement. Photos © Antoine Panier

"Toumaï" means "Hope for life" in the Gorane language spoken in the central Sahara in reference to newborns during the season when survival is the most difficult. Thierry Smits’s new creation draws its inspiration from the darkest things humanity can have. Humor, tragedy and poetry are mixed to construct contrasting visions outlining a humanity to come in a situation of post bio-climatic collapse.

Little Dreams

Starting in the early nineties in Eastern Europe, an Asian fungus has gradually conquered the European continent, infecting almost all ash trees. The symptoms are very severe, many cases leading to the death of most trees. As a result, it is assumed that the ash tree in Europe will soon be close to extinct.
 Choreographer and dancer Dagmar Dachauer was inspired by the sad faith of the European ash tree, and linked it to personal loss in her own life. Finis est cinis: Ash is what remains. Ash is a eulogy for the ash tree and for Prasthan Dachauer, who passed away in 2016.
