About

Summer 2019. In the streets of Rio de Janeiro, women gather together through the rhythm of samba and carnival, taking over spaces traditionally occupied by men. Their powerful bodies and strong voices disturb and question the norms of a patriarchal Brazilian society. While Brazilian democracy is under threat, they build a place of healing through resistance and joy, writing a new page into Rio’s culture. Photos © Eleonore Ardelanot
