The listing in this page highlights the full program of different cultural institutions and/or festivals. Moreover, it highlights the cities where different events are taking place. From this page you can also access the individual city pages to discover other previous and future events that are, or were, programmed in the city. This pages highlights the full program of a festival or program and maintain its artistic vision and focus. Users will be able to access the festivals or specific programs and discover the performances, workshops, talks, and other activities of a festival or a cultural institution.

Each person mentioned on the Platform will have an individual page with a short biography and links to the artistic events, workshops, talks that s/he participated in. Not only artists are highlighted but also the wider community of people working around a performance, event or festival.

Como Bailar en un Mundo Raro

During the second confinement, a dance class will change the daily lives of many people from Marseille. This film starts from a visceral need to share this experience in order to make people want to exchange again in such a complex period. This short 14-minute documentary was shot over several months and presents the portrait of three people who come to the dance class.

After 2 years of waiting, DAN.CIN.LAB is finally celebrating the 10th anniversary of its international festival dedicated to danced films dealing with social issues.
This anniversary program will honor artists, festivals and partner structures with whom the DCL team has realized several projects in the region and abroad, creating each time unique links between artists and inhabitants.
In partnership with Citerne.live, you will be able to discover all the selected films and vote online for the Audience Award of the International Competition DAN.CIN.FEST 2022 around the theme POWER.
This prize will be awarded on Sunday 3 April in a physical ceremony at the Cinéma Le Méliès in Saint-Etienne - France.

‘I want to make a film about women’ is a queer, speculative, documentary dance film love letter to Russian constructivist women. These hands give form to a life and history of sensuality and irony, play, and the unsaid… matter is lost in the complicity of gazes: the artist and the work are laid bare, as is their ambivalent relationship of love and continuous seeking. In this game of mirrors, dream and reality fuse together in a lyrical world that frames the love story without end of one who creates and of one who is created. The Last Children is a choreographic film made in single-shot with the children of a school on the eve of its closure. Through a metaphorical fable, it bears witness to the achievement of the desertification in the rural world and the death of its villages.

Making Men examines the question of masculinity. This dance film zooms in on 4 individuals in the process of becoming men. As is expected, they proceed unquestioningly into manhood through various stages of their lives, adopting the clearly coded characteristics allowed by society.
However, a feeling of unease, in the very depths of their being, oppresses them. They feel uncertainty but also something else, harder to define…

The work was created with the young people over a three-week intensive creation period. The film is influenced by Protein’s Border Tales, exploring themes of multiculturalism and identity.

Can we share a dance remotely? This first "choreographonic" chain tends to create a dimension parallel to the 2020 lockdown, which enables imaginated physical contacts. Every single video has been shot individually. Consequently of a first improvised dance, each dance answers the previous one, until turning itself to the next one's reference, and so on and so forth. High-level sport gives a young athlete real strength of character, but on the other hand, sometimes confronts him or her with facts that are devastating for his or her development as a young adult. Today, the numerous revelations by sportswomen are loosening tongues. "True Sound Facade" is a poetic dance and animation film in which a dancer realises their digital self feels truer than their real world self. It was commissioned by the Barbican museum in London and stars dancer Kino McHugh.
By combining live-action and animation, the film becomes a celebration of how our inner and outer lives merge with each other playfully in the act of artistic creation. It takes inspiration from the japanese notions of 'Honne' - the true sound, one's true feelings - and tatemae - the façade we put up to live in society.

An Egyptian man and woman stand on a rooftop in Down Town Cairo. Teargas from riots in the streets below rise up to the roof and gives an extreme physical memory of Cairo. One physical movement is repeated from beginning to end. Repeatedly. The two characters are seen distinctively. Their reactions and processes become magnified.
CHEST was created for an Egyptian man and woman during the riots and demonstrations in Cairo, Egypt 2013, and was shoot on a rooftop in Down Town Cairo. Teargas from riots in the streets below drew up to the roof and gave the shooting an extreme physical memory of Cairo.

Without clearly showing her facial emotion and her real character, she presents the stress, the anxiety and the coldness from this dystopia city.
