Alexander Vantournhout

Dancer and Choreographer

Born in Belgium in 1989, Alexander Vantournhout first studied single wheel, acrobatics and juggling at the Ecole Supérieure des Arts du Cirque (ESAC) in Brussels. Still in Brussels, he then joined P.A.R.T.S school in order to train in contemporary dance and performance. After graduating from P.A.R.T.S, he continued his apprenticeship, traveling to the United States to study improvisation with Steve Paxton and Lisa Nelson. He is the author of several pieces, including Caprices, ANECKXANDER (in collaboration with Bauke Lievens), Red Haired Men and Through the Grapevine. Very atypical, his scenic language stands out for its great vivacity, both on the body and on the spiritual level. Portrait Photo Bart Grietens Cover Photo Charlotte Cétaire

Theater, dance, music, circus, visual and digital arts – in short, there’s a place for all the diversity of today’s art forms at Les Subs, and especially for aesthetic adventures that take audiences beyond their comfort zone. Exit the borders between visual arts and performing arts, the big stage and small theaters, indoors and outdoors, high-brow and low-brow, here and there. Open to the city and the world, Les Subs promotes regional as well as international talent, residencies and meet-up events, new technologies and accessibility for the many, a strong identity and partnerships.
